Scholarship to be Inaugurated Summer 2015
CSSSA is honored to announce the Cal Pritner Theater Scholarship. This $10,000 annual college scholarship will be presented to one outstanding student at CSSSA who demonstrates excellence in Theater.
Calvin Pritner, long-time Theater faculty member at CSSSA, influenced a generation of theater artists. He was the chair of Illinois State University's Department of Theater and the Founding Artistic Director of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. Along with his colleagues, he helped to shape the development of founding members of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Co. He chaired the theater department at the University of Missouri -Kansas City. He brought his love of Shakespeare to CSSSA for nearly 20 years. As an actor he performed in several one-man shows, including his own production of "Mark Twain Travelling" as well as in film and television. He will be missed by CSSSA students and faculty all over the country.
We are proud to honor Cal Pritner’s legacy and lasting contribution to CSSSA through the Cal Pritner Theater Scholarship. The scholarship will be given on an annual basis at the conclusion of the CSSSA Program. CAL PRITNER Scholarship 2015
It is our honor to offer Yazmín Curiel-Ruth the first Cal Pritner scholarship for theater students. Yazmín graduated from high school in the Central Valley this June and will be attending university this fall. She is a compelling actor, who has gone from strength to strength in her work this summer. She avails herself of all that is offered, and has been a model of responsibility in preparation, complete joy in discovery, and staying open to the possibilities that true exploration offers. She has made the connection between the skills classes, and the work of the studio, in ways that make it clear that she has intelligence, and curiosity about the craft, and its applications to making art. We have complete confidence in her gifts as an artist, and her ability to be successful in her chosen field.
